THE COMPLEX OF TUMULI 9, 10 and 11 in the NECROPOLIS of APOLLONIA (ALBANIA) by Maria Grazia Amore
On April 20, 2010 in the hall “Aleks Buda” of the Academy of Sciences was held the promotion of the new publication of the ICAA Monograph Series
Changes were brought to the “Cultural Heritage Law”
Recently some important changes were brought to the “Cultural Heritage Law” approved in 2003.
In the past years an important component of ICAA has been the Albanian Rescue Archaeology Unit (ARAU), devoted to field projects especially at Apollonia, the Shkumbin river valley, and the Korça area. Its primary task has been to provide a rapid response service for sites in danger because of looting and/or construction development. The practice of rescue archaeology was unknown in Albania before 2000. Nowadays the Government has acknowledged the need of a structure which deals with such issues and has created the Agency for Public Archaeology Service (http://www.asha.gov.al/content.asp?id=3) within the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Youth, and Sport in which work some of the people trained by ARAU. ARAU projects have been always carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Archaeology. ICAA has also developed a series of research projects in important archaeological sites, both alone and in joint projects with foreign Universities. These projects had the aim not only to gain new information and archaeological data from the excavations, but also to be a training school for young archaeologists. |
