Changes were brought to the Law “For the Cultural Heritage”

On April 20, 2010 in the hall “Aleks Buda” of the Academy of Sciences was held the promotion of the new publication of the ICAA Monograph Series.
This new publication makes public the results of the Apollonia Necropolis Project undertaken by the Albanian Rescue Archaeology Unit in collaboration with the Institute of Archaeology during the years 2002-2006.

The two volumes are in English and have been published in the International Series of the prestigious publishing house “British Archaeological Reports” (BAR). This element is very important, because brings Albanian archaeology to the international archaeological community and shows the potential of scientific research in Albania.
The opening speech was delivered by Iris Pojani, who presented briefly the 10 years activity of ICAA and the Monograph Series, then Maria Grazia Amore, the principal author, illustrated the “Apollonia Necropolis Project” and the contents of the publication. Lorenc Bejko underlined the importance of the results from Tumulus 10, the first prehistoric tumulus found in the Necropolis of Apollonia.

Vangjel Dimo made a solicit in favor of the preservation and protection of the Necropolis and Skender Aliu mentioned some anecdotes about the everyday life in the Apollonia field project. In conclusion Professor Muzafer Korkuti and Professor Shpresa Gjongecaj made a very positive evaluation of the volumes and expressed their wish of having more publications with such international standards.

The ceremony was attended by a numerous public from the Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Archaeology, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Unesco Albanian branch, the Department of History of the University of Tirana, the Agency for Public Archaeology (AShA), the Archaeological Parks of Apollonia and Butrint, and other interested people.
The cocktail at the end gave the chance to meet journalists from various TVs and to deliver interviews, as well as to carry on conversations among colleagues and friends.
