RËMBEC PROJECT
Introduction
During two seasons, November 2003 and
May 2004, at the medieval cemetery of Rëmbec took place an
archaeological excavation. Rëmbec is a village located in the center
of the Korça basin, in southeastern Albania. The cemetery itself
lies in a plain located on the western side of the village (Fig. 1).
It was identified by chance by local farmers in the summer of 2003.
While extracting sand for building purposes, they repeatedly found
human bones and ceramics. After their notification, on November 2003[1] the Albanian Rescue Archaeology Unit in collaboration with the
Archaeological Museum of Korça, started a rescue dig in order to
document the cemetery.
